I have been collecting information about Nothdurft - Notdurft- Nodurft Families in the United States for about 40 years. In researching my own family it was necessary to collect and isolatefragments of families until they could be identified as belong to my family or not. This book contains those fragments.

I have included a brief synopsis of each family followed by the genealogy of what we know about the family. There are people in this country who have more of the details about these if wecan locate them and gain their cooperation.

I have included my Nothdurft - Rhuden, Germany Family becauseit goes back to the 30 year war when records prior to that date were destroyed. When I had research done in Germany, I was onlyinterested in my direct line back as far as possible. So there searcher did not include all the branches of the family treewhen he reported to me. Therefore there should be a lot more Nothdurft's, all related, in the records of St. Martins Church of Rhuden inthe German State Archives.

My personal theory is they the Nothdurft Family originatedin Tyrol, which is part of Austria today, because the earliestrecords of the family name are from that area. But we have toremember the 30 year war destroyed when most of the earlier records unless your family was royalty or lived in a castle were recordswere protected.

I believe the family migrated North and West to the Wuttemburgarea; East toward Hungary/Yugoslavia; and North toward the Hannover area from Tyrol.

I also believe that all Nothdurft's from a certain area areall related, if you can trace them back far enough. Then we must remember that some of the Nothdurft's from Rhuden came to Americaand some stayed in Germany. Some Nothdurft's married people inneighboring villages and moved from Rhuden. Later some of theseimmigrated, so they appear in the records from a different villagebut were still related or they immigrated a couple of generationslater. Of course, some of the Nothdurft's in Germany moved aroundfor various reasons especially during wars.
