ZELTMAN, ZELTMANN FAMILY
The Zeltmann Family has been traced back to Hans Martin Zeltmann, born Feb 1627 in Langen Kandel (NW of Karlsruhe) and died in Loffenau, Germany. He married Anna Marie Unknown. The parents of Hans Martin Zeltmann were Martin Zeltmann and Margaretha Unknown. Birth dates and location is unknown. The common ancestor of the New York branch and the Maryland branch is Mathes Zeltmann, son of Hans Martin Zeltmann.
After 1734 the family moved to Loffenau. Loffenau is a small town near the Black Forest in Germany. It is near Baden Baden not far West of Stuttgart. After 1834 Ernst Wilheim Zeltmann came to New York.
Lewis Frederick Zeltman, of the Mathes Zeltmann branch, came from Germany circa 1846 with his two sons, Frederick Lewis Zeltman born 1842 in Loffenau, Germany and Jacob Fredrich Zeltman born 1844 in Loffenau, Germany and settled in Howard County, Maryland.
